Sclerotherapy is a common treatment where a specially developed solution is injected using a needle directly into the vein causing the vein walls to swell, stick together, thus preventing blood circulation through them. Lack of circulation causes the vein to degrade and decompose within weeks while the adjoining veins compensate its activity and the region regains normal circulation.
This procedure requires less than 30 minutes to perform and does not require any anesthesia as the needles required for injection of the solution are very fine. Post operative care includes not doing any exhaustive exercise for a month, not lifting weights and being careful while sitting or squirting. Standing for prolonged periods too should be avoided. This procedure is highly advised by physicians around the globe because of its reliability and simplicity. Other treatments include surgical removal of the varicose vein or laser therapy.
